Winter Solstice, one of the 24 solar terms, is also an important traditional festival in China. Commonly known as "Winter Festival," "Changzhi Festival," or "Sub-Year," it is noted in The Book of Han: "The positive energy begins to rise at the Winter Solstice, symbolizing the growth of virtue, thus it is celebrated." In northern China, there are customs of slaughtering sheep, eating dumplings wontons on this day, while in the south, people enjoy Tangyuan (glutinous rice balls) and long noodles to mark the occasion.

On this festive occasion, to further promote traditional folk culture and bring together Chinese students in the UK, the YECEA held a social event, theWinter Solstice Dumpling Gathering,on December 21, 2024. This event offered holiday greetings to 30 students and members of the Chinese community in London, allowing those far from home to experience the warmth of family and community.

At the event, everyone was wearing big smiles. Teachers and students enjoyed wrapping dumplings together, savoring the steaming hot pot, dumplings, and Tangyuan. The cheerful laughter of the participants completely dispelled the chill of winter, making this winter night exceptionally warm and filled with love.

Amid carefree laughter, everyone was joyfully busy, engaging in lively conversations. They exchanged tips and techniques for making dumplings and shared nostalgic memories of dumplings from their hometowns. Experienced participants guided newcomers, creating an atmosphere filled with warmth and affection amidst the cheerful chatter.
